Paediatric Continence
We provide Paediatric Continence services for young children for the management of bladder and bowel problems, as well as concerns around toileting.
Problems we may see in the paediatric population include:
Bedwetting (or also known as nocturnal enuresis)
Daytime incontinence/wetting
Constipation
Delayed toilet training
Paediatric continence concerns can vary significantly depending on a child’s age, symptoms and medical history and not all presentations are suitable for physiotherapy management.

For this reason, paediatric continence appointments cannot be arranged without first speaking with our team. We ask that parents or caregivers contact the clinic to discuss their child’s concerns. This allows us to determine whether paediatric continence physiotherapy is appropriate and ensure your child is directed to the most suitable service if further medical assessment or alternative care is required.

Appointments typically involve an in-depth assessment with the child and caregiver, including questions about symptoms, bladder and bowel health, general developmental milestones, diet and any other contributing factors. Most physical assessments use real-time ultrasound on the lower abdomen to observe the bladder, abdominal muscles and pelvic floor.

Our physiotherapists can work closely with your GP and other allied health professionals to ensure coordinated care.
